Managed IT Services for Small Businesses That Can’t Afford Downtime

SNL-Tech Services is a single-operator managed IT business based in Columbia, Maryland, providing direct, accountable IT support for small businesses throughout Maryland, Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Southern and Central Pennsylvania, parts of West Virginia and Northern Delaware.

What SNL-Tech Services Does for Small Businesses

I'm your IT partner. That means I take the time to understand your business, what downtime costs you and what actually matters. I handle the day-to-day work of keeping computers running, fixing problems and managing your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace environment, but I also plan ahead.

I think through different scenarios and how technology decisions can affect your business now and in the future. I look for problems before they become emergencies and help you make technology decisions based on what is best for your business over the long term, not simply what is easiest to sell.

“Technology should work for your business, not the other way around.”

Cybersecurity and Protection

Security Should Match the Business You Actually Run

Small businesses depend on email, cloud applications, computers, mobile devices and internet connectivity every day. I look at how those systems are actually being used and help put appropriate protections around them instead of assuming the same security configuration works for every company.

What I can help with:

  • Multi-factor authentication and identity security

  • Endpoint protection and device management

  • Email security and phishing protection

  • Security updates and patch management

  • Encryption and access controls

  • Backup and recovery planning

  • Logging and security monitoring

  • Cyber Insurance Readiness Assessments based on your insurer's actual technical questions

If a cyber insurance application asks whether a particular control is in place, I can help verify what is actually configured and document what can be supported rather than guessing at the answer.

Compliance Support

Turning Technical Requirements Into Real IT Controls

Businesses with HIPAA, FTC Safeguards, CMMC and other regulatory or contractual responsibilities may have technical safeguards that need to be implemented and documented. My role is the IT side of that work. I help identify technical gaps, implement applicable controls, remediate problems and document how the environment is configured.

What I can help with:

  • HIPAA technical safeguard implementation and documentation

  • FTC Safeguards Rule technical controls for covered financial institutions

  • CMMC Level 1 and Level 2 technical implementation and documentation support

  • Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace security configuration

  • Identity, device, network, backup and logging controls

  • Technical evidence and remediation support

I do not act as the attorney, formal compliance assessor or certification body. When another specialist is involved, I work with them on the technical implementation and documentation.

AI Governance

Know How AI Is Being Used Before You Build More Around It

AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini and others are increasingly available to employees, but every business uses them differently. Before putting an AI policy or technical controls in place, I want to understand which tools and accounts are actually being used, what business information may be involved and where the meaningful risks are.

What I can help with:

  • Identify AI tools, accounts and business use cases

  • Review personal versus company-managed AI accounts

  • Classify AI use based on the information and business process involved

  • Establish approved tools and acceptable use guidance

  • Develop an AI Acceptable Use Policy

  • Review access, permissions and related technical controls

  • Document an AI governance approach that can evolve as the business changes

  • Perform a full AI Governance Assessment when a deeper review is needed

The goal is not to stop employees from using useful AI tools. It is to give the business visibility and put reasonable guardrails around how those tools interact with company information.

Why Small Businesses Work With SNL-Tech Services

Most small businesses cannot justify a full-time internal IT person, and many do not need one. What they do need is someone who understands their environment, responds when something needs attention, helps keep the business secure and can explain what is important without turning every technology issue into a sales pitch.

That is the role I fill. I get to know your business, your users, your systems and the technology you depend on. Because I manage the work directly, you are not starting over with a different technician every time you need help. You have someone who already understands the environment and the decisions that have been made.

Not sure where to start? I offer a free 30-minute consultation to understand your current setup, what is working, what is not and what you are most concerned about. There is no pressure to sign up for Managed IT Services. Sometimes the right next step is ongoing support, while other times it may be an assessment, a specific project or simply a clearer understanding of what needs attention.

Four Things Small Businesses Need From Their IT Support

Someone Who Knows Your Environment

When something breaks, you should not have to explain your business and your technology from the beginning every time. Because I manage the work directly, you work with someone who already knows your systems, your users and the decisions that have been made.

Advice Based on What You Actually Need

I am not interested in replacing technology simply because something newer exists. If the current solution is working, supported and appropriate for the business, I will tell you that. When I recommend a change, I want there to be a clear reason behind it.

Technology Configured Around Your Business

Default settings are not a technology strategy. I look at how your business actually works, what information needs to be protected, how employees access systems and what regulatory, contractual or insurance requirements apply. From there, I configure the environment around the business instead of expecting the business to work around the technology.

Someone Paying Attention as Things Change

Microsoft 365 changes. Security threats change. Employees, devices and applications change. Cyber insurance questionnaires and compliance requirements can change too. Part of my job is staying aware of those changes and determining which ones actually matter to the businesses I support so you do not have to keep track of every technical update yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of businesses do you work with?

Law firms, healthcare and behavioral health practices, construction companies, farms and equestrian facilities, financial services firms, dental and medical offices, veterinary clinics, animal care businesses, trades businesses, and defense contractors pursuing CMMC. If your industry isn't listed, reach out. I may still be a good fit.

Do you work outside of Maryland?

Yes. I work with businesses across Maryland, Northern Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and the DC area. Most of what I do is handled remotely. Audits, assessments, Microsoft 365 management, security configuration, and day-to-day support can all be done without stepping foot in your building. I come onsite when the situation calls for it, such as network installations, camera systems, or shop WiFi. For situations that require travel outside my typical coverage area, arrangements can be made. I have traveled as far as southern Georgia and Vermont to support clients onsite, including a WiFi assessment and recommendations for a campground in Vermont.

What if I already have IT support?

Depends on what you need. Some clients bring me in for a specific assessment or project. Some want me to take over entirely from a previous provider. Some have an internal person who handles basic support and want me to handle the security and compliance side. I can work in any of those situations without stepping on what's already in place.

Your IT is handled by someone who knows your business, not whoever picks up the ticket

I'm Shay Stoddard, owner of SNL-Tech Services.

I started this business because small businesses deserved the same quality of IT that larger companies get, without the enterprise price tag or the impersonal experience that usually comes with it.

I work with businesses across Maryland, Northern Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and the DC area. My clients include law firms, healthcare practices, construction companies, farms, financial services firms, dental offices, veterinary clinics, trades businesses, and defense contractors. Every one of them gets a direct relationship with me.

I'm not a help desk. I'm your IT partner. There's a difference. SNL-Tech Services is a woman-owned and operated business.

So very happy!

So very happy to have found Shay of SNL - Tech Services. I asked my neighbors and her name came up more than once as someone I could count on when I needed computer help. What a find and a blessing for me because it was not long after I asked that I was in great need of her services. She is very prompt, capable, efficient, and fair pricewise. I cannot recommend her highly enough. So grateful to have found her and I consider her a friend.

My go-to person.

Shay is a very knowledgeable IT consultant. As a small business owner I want to ensure I am doing things properly when it comes to IT and Shay is my go-to person. She always has an answer or a solution for what I am trying to accomplish. Also, working from home, I was looking to have some flexibility in how I work, so, Shay was able to install WiFi outside my home so I can work outdoors on nice days and not lose my signal. What a great addition to my home office! If you are a small business owner, having a reliable IT person, like Shay, is priceless!

What wonderful service!

My God, what wonderful service and knowledge. The staff helped the local Fire Department with some IT issues. They're knowledgeable and super kind. They had everything up and running so that we could continue to serve the public. I couldn't believe how amazing SNL Tech was. I would buy a computer, and break it just so they could fix it again.
